Back up DHCP Server Configuration Database quickly

Tip explains how to backup DHCP Server configuration database.

Windows Server 2012 R2 and later Operating Systems offer Backup-DHCPServer PowerShell cmdlet. As the name suggests, Backup-DHCPServer PowerShell cmdlet is capable of backing up DHCP database to a specified location. As shown in the command below, I am backing up my test lab DHCP Server named DHCPServer1 to E:\DHCPBackup.

  • Backup-DHCPServer –ComputerName DHCPServer1.Test.com –Path E:\DHCPBackup

If you wish to automate this process, create a schedule task on the DHCP Server and run the Schedule Task every midnight or at a specified time.
