Prevent Windows from restarting OS after applying security updates.

Windows 8.1 introduces "Automatic Restart After Windows Update" feature. As part of this feature, a PC running Windows 8.1 will be restarted automatically after applying the important patches. To control this behaviour, create the following registry entry:

  • Reg Entry: NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers
  • Reg Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
  • Reg Type: DWORD
  • Value: 1
