Troubleshooting - Can't install application with UAC enabled

by Mitch Tulloch [Published on 5 Sept. 2012 / Last Updated on 19 June 2012]

A tip on how to troubleshoot a problem where a certain application won't install when User Account Control is enabled on the computer.

Problem: You are trying to install a certain application on a computer, but the application fails to install.  There is no specific error message or log entry that indicates the problem.  However, you notice that when you disable UAC on the computer, the application installation succeeds.

Resolution: Don't disable UAC on the computer.  Instead, launch the application's install program (.msi) from an elevated command prompt.
