A registry hack that lets you find KB articles--fast!

If you're an administrator, you probably need to frequently access articles in the Knowledge Base on Microsoft TechNet. The search tool on TechNet is one way to do this, but there's a faster way if you know the number of the KB article you want to view. Just do the following:

Open Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:

   HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl

Create the following new subkey:

   kb

Under this subkey change the Default value to the following:

   http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=%s

Now close Registry Editor and open Internet Explorer. Say you want to quickly get to Knowledge Base article 313348. Here's what you do--type kb 313348 in the address bar of IE. Presto!

Cheers,
