Windows 2000 Support Tools

Windows 2000 CD has a set of support tools including applications, command-line utilities, WSH scripts, COM objects, Word documents, and help files. You will not see it as an option during the installation. To install, navigate to the \support\tools folder and run setup. It will create a Windows 2000 Support Tools folder under Start menu and it will create a \program files\support folder.

Microsoft generally includes extra tools in the support folder for Windows NT and Windows 2000. They are generally useful although not a replacement for the resource kits. You should learn these tools.

Service Packs generally include updates for some of these tools. The utility updates are not installed when you update the operating system with the SP. The updated tools are available in the Support\Tools\ file on the Windows 2000 SP CD. Windows 2000 SP3 has update for :

  • Dcdiag.exe
  • Iadstools.dll
  • Netdiag.exe
  • Netdom.exe
  • Nltest.exe
  • Replmon.exe
