Microsoft has released the User State Migration Tool
. This is available for free download
and will be part of the W2K resource kits in the future. The commandline tool is
designed to make a wipe-and-reinstall conversion from NT to W2K Pro as painless
as possible. It will capture and migrate most of the user's system settings
- Dial-up Networking/RAS
- Display settings (wallpapers, colors, fonts)
- Internet Explorer 4.x or 5.x settings
- Accessibility settings
- Mapped drives
- Network printers
- Folder options
- Migrate Microsoft Outlook 97, Outlook 98, or Outlook 2000 connectivity
- Migrate some common types of user files to the My Documents folder.
It would be just as valuable when moving a user from an PC to an new
PC, NT to W2K or W2K to W2K.
