Using Long-Filename on a Netware Server
You have connected to a Netware server from
Windows95 or NT4, but now have to find out, that your nice
"long Filenames" are still only stored as the old 8.3
names on the Novell-Netware server ?
Again, the "Windows95 Resource Kit"
offers the solution:

That support for "Long Filenames" was originally
developed for supporting OS/2, but works also fine with Windows95
and NT4.
| Update for Novell
Intranetware/Netware 4.11 Servers |
Novell has adjusted to the situation
in the market:
OS/2 (for which the Long-Filenames-feature was originally
implemented)
was NOT successful as a desktop-operating system !
Windows95/NT systems are using the support for
Long-Filenames.
Novell has renamed the Netware-Model (from "OS2.NAM"
) to
(a more neutral name) "LONG.NAM",
so please use now the following commands on the Netware
server:
LOAD LONG
ADD NAME SPACE LONG TO VOLUME SYS |
Part of the functionality of
"Long-Filenames" is the possibility to store
case-sensitive names, i.e. having also lower-case characters are
part of a filename. Just make sure, that this is NOT deactivated
in the properties of the "Client for Netware Networks":
