File and Print Sharing, while connected to a Novell-Netware Server
When using a professional server (like Novell
Netware or Microsoft Windows NT server), workstations should only
access/store data on their local disk or on the server-disk(s),
but not anymore on other PC's connected to the network. It make
the data-management/control a lot easier, especially the backup.
But there are some special cases, where it makes sense to give
other systems access to your local disk, so a Windows95 system
will get configured as an 'additional' Netware server:

The process of setting up now "File and Print Sharing"
is very similar to the PC-to-PC procedures, except we now install
it as:
"File and Print Sharing for Netware Networks"

IMPORTANT: to make sure, that this system
becomes visible in the Network-Neighborhood of other system, you
have to turn on in the properties of this "File
and Print Sharing for Netware Networks" the
feature called:
"Server Advertising
Protocol
: SAP "
IMPORTANT: before to exit from the 'Network'-Applet
(and Windows95 will remind you, if you forget it), you need to
define on the tab: "Access Control" now as Security - scheme the 'User-Level
Access-Control' and the system, which maintains the
database with User-Names and Passwords, in our case: the
Novell-Netware Server (Windows95 itself does not have such a
capability to maintain such a user-database, but Windows NT 4
does !):

Like on a PC-to-PC network (where you use the "File and
Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks"), you need now to
give permission for other systems to access your
disk/printer by selecting from the Context-menu:
"Sharing":
 |
While you get to the 'Sharing
' window as on a PC-to-PC
network, you need now to define, which Novell-Netware
Users (or Group of Users) have the Permission to access
your disk/printer. You can give different permissions
(Full access or
only Read-access) to different users.
|

A configured "Sharing" could look like this:

Then, this system (which I called '486u66'), will show up in the
Network-Neighborhood of other systems (they may have to browse
the "Entire Network to find that
system). The resource can now be accessed like any other
network-resource (map a network-drive or use drag&drop/copy
to transfer/access files).

What I have shown above for the Sharing of the
disk, works almost identical for Sharing printer:
 |
On the system, which has the printer installed:
Select from the Context-Menu: Sharing
and then
assigned the users/Groups, which are allows to
access this printer. |

On the system, which like to use this printer, start the
setup-procedure to "Add a printer" exactly as if you
are defining a local printer:

But on the second page, select "Network Printer":

You get prompted for the "Network Path or Queue
name", and if you are good in UNC, enter it, I
myself prefer to 'Browse' and pick the
printer from the list of systems, offering a printer on the
network.
Once the printer is installed, you can use it as any other
printer.
If you have a look at the properties of the printer:

you see, that it is a network-printer with the UNC
(Universal Naming
Convention
name) : \\486u66\brother,where the first part of the name (following the '\\' )
is the name of the system owning the printer, and the second part
is the Share-name of the printer (so the UNC is also an easy
access method).
