Modem Internet Connection via DCC: Host
for additional information:
See Parallel
Technologies' Web Site
for detailed information on
Internet Connection Sharing via Direct Cable Connection
(DCC) :
There are some
very helpful Step-By-Step Setup Instructions for setting
up
DirectParallel® Direct Cable Connection (DCC)
on Windows 95/98/2000/ME:
|

You need to configure to use Dialup-Networking (DUN) and Direct-Cable-Connection
(DCC)
at the same time, which requires the upgrade of Windows95 to DUN
1.2 or DUN 1.3 :
Dial-up networking and Direct cable use internally the same
component: the Dialup-Adapter.

To be able to use DUN
and DCC at the same time, you need to
install a second Dialup-Adapter:
( which we get by "mis-using"
the dialup-adapter added by Microsoft for use with Virtual Private Networks: VPN ) :

 |
In the Network
configuration, select
the button "Add" ,
select "Adapter",
again "Add" and then
select as
"Manufacturer" " Microsoft"
and as
"Network Adapter" the
"Dial-Up Adapter" |

|
In Control-Panel , use
"Add/Remove Programs",
tab: "Windows Setup"
and install
"Virtual Private Networking"
(defined as a communications item) |

 |
Since we only need to get
the
second Dial-Up Adapter (listed as :
"Dial-Up Adapter #2 (VPN support) ",
we do not need the other VPN components:
- Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter
- NDISWAN - protocol
You can delete (="Remove")
these 2 components. |
A check: Make the connection from the DCC client to this
DCC-Host:

then run on the DCC host the command (via
the Start-menu / Run ) : "winipcfg"
:

By default, the DCC-host will be assigned the IP-address
192.168.55.1.
You need this info when configuring in the next step the DCC client.
