Choosing the proper protocol

Usually, when installing a new network board in a Windows95 system and either have Win95 detect the new board or by selecting it manually, Win95 installs immediately the protocols "NetBEUI" and "IPX/SPX" and the Clients for "Netware networks" and for "Microsoft networks".
But when it comes to using the protocols, there a substantial differences in it simplicity and complexity.

When connecting to a NOVELL-Netware server, IPX/SPX (or TCP/IP) is the required protocol (a NOVELL-Netware server does NOT support the Microsoft NetBEUI protocol).
When connecting to a Windows NT server or workstation, it could be any protocol (NetBEUI, IPX/SPX or TCP/IP), depending on the setup of that NT-system.
When connecting to another Windows95 system, which is configured with "Microsoft File and Print Sharing", then it is Microsoft's suggestion to use the "NetBEUI" protocol, which is by far the most easy to setup and to configure.
To be exact: You need to configure NOTHINGon the NetBEUI-protocol !.

In a MS PC-to-PC configuration using NetBEUI, it is highly advisable to delete the IPX/SPX protocol from the Network-control applet in the "Control-panel", because it will only take up memory, while doing nothing.
